Fear of Men - BTR Live Studio [ep217]

Fear of Men are a band from Brighton, England, born of an art school project by vocalist/guitarist Jessica Weiss and her home recordings of ambient soundtracks to short films. Now a four piece and drawing their inspiration from art and philosophy, Fear of Men deliberately juxtaposes iconic museum imagery and lyrical themes of loneliness and fragmentation with buoyant pop melodies, resulting in songs with often bleakly nihilistic subject matter swimming in hummable pop tunes.

Featured song: “Born”

Fear Of Men’s Early Fragments is out now on Kanine Records.

Rosco Bandana - BTR Live Studio [ep174]

Hailing from the Mississippi Gulf Coast, perhaps the most obvious trait of Rosco Bandana is their striking live energy. The songs are fast, the musicians are tight, and, most importantly, their blend of Americana and folk is tempered with a strong helping of Southern sweetness and a seeming desire to get a little rowdy. They are, after all, the product of teenage rebellion and its consequences, born out of principle songwriter Jason Sanford’s efforts to break out of his strict Christian upbringing and his subsequent discovery of indie rock. The band visited BTR Live Studio to play some songs and to sit down with Maia to talk a bit about how they found themselves winning the competition that landed them a record deal with Hard Rock Records.

Featured song: “Time To Begin”

Rosco Bandana’s Time To Begin is available on Hard Rock Records

Dinosaur Feathers - Serious Business on BTR [ep92]

Forget what you may know about Dinosaur Feathers. They’ve evolved from solo bedroom pop project to dance party karaoke machine, and — most recently — hard hitting rock band. Now armed with a real live drummer, more guitar riffs, and an ever-evolving arsenal of bizarre sounds, they continue to build on their infectiously sunny melodies towards jazzy punk/pop bliss. In this episode, Travis sits down with the band to talk about hitting pedestrians with your tour van, questioning the meaning of being a musician, and sharing a moment of true harmony.

Featured song: “Untrue”

Whistle Tips is available now from Ernest Jenning.

Careful - BTR Live Studio [ep160]

Eric Lindley is a multi-instrumentalist, singer-songwriter, and producer with a tendency towards sparseness and experimentation in his Careful project. An unconventional use of auto-tuned vocals over indie folk sets him apart from most dudes with guitars, and sets a strangely unsettling tone for his masterfully concocted, lovely songs.

Featured song: “Carnival”

Because I Am Always Talking is available now in digital and CD formats, with vinyl coming soon.
